After dinner I went to him in his ermitage in the jungle. It is a very solid little house near a rest house for convalescing monks&#8230; <br>Nyanaponika Thera is old now, in his sixties or perhaps seventies. Originally a German Jew, he became a Buddhist years ago&#8230;<br>He writes and is charged with a great deal of editorial work for the local Buddhist publishing outfit, the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bps.lk\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Buddhist Publication Society<\/a>, which does some quite good things&#8230;<br>We walked out on the brow of a hill where the jungle has been cleared a bit and there is a fine view of the peaks to the southwest and northwest. <br>I hope my camera caught some of the enchanted beauty of this landscape.&nbsp; <br>Ceylon is incomparable!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J&rsquo;ai re\u00e7u une lettre  du bhikku allemand Nyanaponika Thera. The cathedral is fairly handsome in its 18th-century colonial sort of way. Bishop Nanayakkara is very progressive and we talked long about my idea of Buddhist dialogue and of a meditation monastery that would be open to Buddhism. He drove me up to the top of the hill looking down on Kandy, and continued to talk about the Church today and the problems of Christians. I think he sees the situation clearly\u2014or in any event we agree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus tard, j&rsquo;ai rendu visite \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9v\u00eaque Nanayakkara dans les b\u00e2timents de la cath\u00e9drale &#8211; construits originellement par les Sylvestrins pour servir de monast\u00e8re. La cath\u00e9drale, d&rsquo;un style colonial assez \u00e9l\u00e9gant, date du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle. Monseigneur Nanayakkara est un \u00e9v\u00eaque tr\u00e8s progressiste et nous avons longtemps discut\u00e9 du dialogue que je propose d&rsquo;instaurer avec les Bouddhistes et du projet d&rsquo;un monast\u00e8re de m\u00e9ditation qui serait ouvert au Bouddhisme. Il m&rsquo;a conduit sur une colline d&rsquo;o\u00f9 l&rsquo;on voit bien Kandy, tout en continuant \u00e0 me parler de l&rsquo;Eglise d&rsquo;aujourd&rsquo;hui et des probl\u00e8mes des Chr\u00e9tiens. The cathedral is fairly handsome in its 18th-century colonial sort of way. Bishop Nanayakkara is very progressive and we talked long about my idea of Buddhist dialogue and of a meditation monastery that would be open to Buddhism. He drove me up to the top of the hill looking down on Kandy, and continued to talk about the Church today and the problems of Christians. I think he sees the situation clearly\u2014or in any event we agree.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/div><\/div>\n<!-- \/wp:media-text -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Plus tard, j'ai rendu visite \u00e0 l'\u00e9v\u00eaque Nanayakkara dans les b\u00e2timents de la cath\u00e9drale - construits originellement par les Sylvestrins pour servir de monast\u00e8re. La cath\u00e9drale, d'un style colonial assez \u00e9l\u00e9gant, date du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle. Monseigneur Nanayakkara est un \u00e9v\u00eaque tr\u00e8s progressiste et nous avons longtemps discut\u00e9 du dialogue que je propose d'instaurer avec les Bouddhistes et du projet d'un monast\u00e8re de m\u00e9ditation qui serait ouvert au Bouddhisme. Il m'a conduit sur une colline d'o\u00f9 l'on voit bien Kandy, tout en continuant \u00e0 me parler de l'Eglise d'aujourd'hui et des probl\u00e8mes des Chr\u00e9tiens.
